Happy Norwegian Constitution Day -17 mai
A little bit about 17 mai celebration
"17. mai" refers to May 17th, which is the Norwegian Constitution Day, commonly known as Syttende Mai (Seventeenth of May). It commemorates the signing of the Norwegian Constitution in 1814 and the country's independence from Denmark.
On this day, Norwegians celebrate with parades, flags, traditional costumes (bunads), speeches, concerts, and other festivities across the country. It's a joyful and patriotic occasion, marked by a sense of national pride and unity. Families often gather for meals and activities, and children participate in parades waving Norwegian flags and wearing traditional attire.
The celebrations typically include speeches, musical performances, and the singing of the Norwegian national anthem, "Ja, vi elsker dette landet" ("Yes, we love this country"). In addition to being a national holiday in Norway, May 17th is also celebrated by Norwegian communities around the world.
